M*A*S*H-ish

Since M*A*S*H was a successful and influential series, there were three spin-offs as a result: Trapper John, M.D, AfterMASH, and W*A*L*T*E*R. In addition, actors from the series went on to do other things that were somewhat related to M*A*S*H. And, of course, there is the infamous Robert Altman MASH film from 1970. There are items in the collection that are related to all of these projects.

There are also objects related to real MASH units in the Korean War and beyond. As a historian, I appreciate how the creators of the series used the stories provided by nurses and doctors from real MASH units and integrated them into the series. This is a big part of what made the characters and series feel real. The collection features books by, and about, real doctors, nurses, medics, and helicopter pilots during the Korean War as well as objects from MASH units.

The M*A*S*H-ish posts will look at an item that is related to M*A*S*H but does not directly come from the series. Because there are not a lot of these items in the collection, this will not be a monthly post. Instead, these posts will publish in the months that have five Mondays, which is approximately four times a year. In 2023, a M*A*S*H-ish post will be published in January, May, July, and October.
