What is it?
Swit, Loretta. Switheart: The Watercolour Artistry & Animal Activism of Loretta Swit, 2nd Edition.
Why should M*A*S*H fans care?
As I mentioned in my initial review, Loretta Swit played an integral role on M*A*S*H for eleven years, and learning more about her work outside of the series is rewarding. Her talent goes beyond acting and singing as she is also a talented artist. This book highlights many of her works.
As a M*A*S*H fan, what part(s) should I read?
All of it! The paintings and stories are fun to read through.
TL;DR Review
The second edition of the book is still just as beautiful as the first with a few new additions, including an introduction by Mike Farrell. The artwork is beautiful, the stories are touching, and the proceeds go to a great cause. All sales of the book benefit SwitHeart Animal Alliance and the animal rights charities it supports.
Full Review

When I reviewed the first edition of Loretta Swit’s book, I was deeply impressed by her artistic talent. Her paintings of the animals that she has encountered during her charity work and throughout her life capture the spirit of each animal. Swit includes a brief story about each of the animals and, in her stories, shares some interesting details about animal rights, the animal kingdom, and each individual animal. She brings each one to life in words and on canvas.
This second edition of the book has a few updates that are worth noting. Swit revised her acknowledgements page, there is a new blurb from Jamie Farr, and there are some design changes in the book. I like the design updates as there are fewer brightly colored pages with contrasting text. The previous edition had some pages that could be challenging to read. The greatest addition to this edition is the introduction by M*A*S*H cast mate Mike Farrell. In it, he lovingly describes Swit’s generosity and dedication to animals rights over the last several decades. Swit was honored with The Betty White Award in 2016 for her work with animal charities, something White was famous for.
Of course, us M*A*S*H fans will want to know if there is anything related to M*A*S*H in the book, and there is! Swit has dedicated a page to her work on M*A*S*H and the artwork by Bernie Fuchs is presented. If you are looking to add something from Swit to your collection, I highly recommend adding Switheart as it offers a very personal glimpse into her activism. Plus, all of the proceeds go to a great cause. You can purchase a copy of the book directly from Switheart for $80. All copies are personalized and signed by Swit.
